Ellen Waters, LICSW
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with over 30 years of experience. I received my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Columbia University and have worked in a variety of settings, including Inpatient Hospitalization, Child Care and Public Schools, and was previously a clinician at Life Management Associates in Harvard, MA before opening my own practice.
I work with adults ranging from young adults to retirees with a variety of presenting concerns, including anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief and loss. As a former school social worker, I bring significant knowledge about the special educational needs of children and their families, and provide support and direction to parents in understanding and advocating for their childrens’ needs.
I have particular clinical interest in working with adults regarding issues of self-esteem, assertiveness, and relationship concerns, and I have extensive experience in the areas of substance abuse and other addictive behaviors, and their impact on family systems.
I use an eclectic approach that is mostly cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic in nature, which is developed in partnership with my clients’ particular needs. Comfort, safety and trust in the process of change are key to a meaningful experience, and I believe that through a respectful and collaborative relationship, encouraging and utilizing their own strengths, my clients’ needs and goals can best be met.
